Book Coach With Full Context
The paid Book Coach reads your entire manuscript, builds a story bible, generates a developmental beta reader report, and references your actual characters, plot beats, and scenes by name. Every question you ask is answered against the backdrop of your real book — not a pasted excerpt.

Most AI chat tools are useless for fiction. You paste a scene, ask "is this good?", and get back "Yes! This is a wonderful scene with vivid imagery and compelling characters." That's not feedback. That's flattery dressed up as analysis.
This chat is built differently. The system prompt explicitly forbids generic praise. It forbids "if you'd like, I can..." phrasing. It requires specificity — the coach has to name your characters, your scenes, your actual problems. And there are two personas because sometimes you need warmth and sometimes you need a hammer.
Coddle Me — The Warm Writing Partner
Use this persona when you're in draft mode. You're writing, you're uncertain, you need a supportive voice that will actually engage with your ideas instead of just killing them. The Coddle Me persona is honest — it will still tell you what's not working — but it leads with what is working and keeps you moving forward.
Good Coddle Me questions:
- "I'm stuck on how to open chapter 3. Here's what I have so far — what's missing?"
- "Does this character feel distinct enough? Paste dialogue."
- "I think I want my protagonist to make this decision but it feels off — can you help me figure out why?"
- "What's the one thing that would make this scene hit harder?"
Hurt My Feelings — The Red Pen
Use this persona when you're in revision mode. You've got a draft. You're ready to cut. You want the brutally honest high-end editor who strips away all praise and tells you exactly why the scene isn't working. The Red Pen persona is trained to be surgical — it references specific sentences, names specific flaws, and doesn't soften anything.
Good Hurt My Feelings questions:
- "Rip this chapter opening apart. What are my top 3 mistakes?"
- "Is this dialogue flat? Be specific about which lines."
- "Why does this scene feel slow? What should I cut?"
- "Compare my prose to commercial thriller writers — where am I weakest?"
Model Selection (Quick / Thoughtful / Smart)
- Quick (Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite) — fastest, cheapest. Good for short questions and quick line-level feedback.
- Thoughtful (GPT-5 Nano) — balanced. Good for multi-paragraph scene analysis and craft questions.
- Smart (GPT-5.1) — premium. Use when you want the most nuanced reasoning — structural questions, character arc analysis, complex plot help.
What This Chat Will NOT Do
- It will not write your book for you. Use the Rewriter for that.
- It will not translate. Use the Translator.
- It will not pretend your first draft is publishable. Nothing will.
- It will not remember context beyond this browser session without you manually pasting it back in.
- It will not give you feedback on a whole manuscript — just excerpts. For full-manuscript conversations, use the paid Book Coach dashboard.
